A few days ago I posted a picture of an ‘87 Shelby Charger a guy near here is selling, because I’m a big stupid idiot. The problems I now have are a) he dropped the price $100, and b) it looks SUPER CLEAN.
$600, doesn't run, and the right rear brake is stuck. Am I crazy for thinking that seems like a great deal? I'm currently liquidating some small assets in case the guy calls me back...the wife is going apple picking Saturday morning with my son, maybe I take a ride out to CT while she's gone?

Still a K car. Still might be worth something some day because it’s clean and says “Shelby” on it.

Less think, more buy.

Not a K car.

Just do it

This thing looks hail-Mary miracle clean. Buy it, fix it, and turn up the boost.

You won’t do it.

It’s an L-body, which actually predates the k-car.

I would so go for it and store it. Maybe get it running eventually, but damn well worth a few hundred.

That’s my thinking. I’d accrue the parts for the turbo 2 swap, and then turn up the boost until this engine pops. Also, it apparently only has 90k miles on it. Guy just called me back from work, I’m calling him in a few hours when he’s out.

Given my past experiences with 2.2 liter turbo Dodges, I legitimately hope that I don’t.

I’ve bought worse cars for more money.

Hey, hey now. Let’s not be cruel. It’s an Omni.

DO IT

...so even worse? I was always under the impression that K and L platforms were prety much the same thing just marked differently for different vehicle classes.

Damn, buy that. Hell, it’s an engine swap away from an amazing deal.

I actually like the Omni. One of the few honest cars they’ve ever made.

Drives better than a Chevette.

It’s kinda weird to me how perception of the k-platform has tanked. I mean it basically saved Chrysler, and compared to what was being built at the time in America they weren’t bad cars at all.
I actually agree somewhat with your assessment on it though, it’ll be worth a little something because Shelby’s name was on it. I don’t think these or the k-cars are ever going to be investment quality cars, but you do see a lot less of them than you used to, which is the first step towards prices appreciating (which they’re beginning to do).

Do it. Do It. DO IT!

I think the big difference is that I didn’t think Chrysler was worth saving. While it wasn’t bad in the early 80s compared to what the formerly big three were making, Toyotas and Hondas were just better in every way and by the end of the platform it was being decimated even by the other formerly domestics. My perception of the K car hasn’t diminished. I’ve always considered them awful.

if it were remotely close to me it’d be owned already.

I laughed out loud at the first sentence of that reply. Not sarcastic, not scoffing at it, I just found it legitimately funny. Good points all around though, I’ve just always liked them (even while admitting they’re a bit crap).

Wow, that is clean. And that color is great. You always see them in black, or blue. $600 is nothing as long as you’re employed.

Same here..... Shit my 928 falls in that category.

I’m totally employed! I spent a few days ago talking myself out of it, now I’m talking myself back into it.

Do it because I can’t.

Why are we still conversing on whether you should buy this or not when it should already be in your driveway...? :P

I talked to the guy, sounds pretty straight forward. He’s got a guy coming tomorrow, I told him I’d call him Friday and if he’s still got it I’ll go see it Saturday.

That is dangerous but I doubt you could lose much. Do it do it do it.

Just...... just buy a Fox body.
![]() 09/28/2016 at 18:08 |

I’ve had five Foxes. Just sold an ‘86 5.0 notch last year. $600 doesn’t buy a very nice (or any) Fox at all where I live.

That’s disappointing, I bought my 86 earlier this year for $700. Had to sell it because I’m young and stupid and can’t manage money responsibly, but other than the small dent on the rear quarter the car itself was immaculate.

Luckily there will always be Foxes for sale for somewhat reasonable prices.
